Exco advises state reps to use funds to distribute Jalur Gemilang flags for National Day

By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

SHAH ALAM, Aug 18 — Every state assemblymen should prepare funds to distribute Malaysian flags, ahead of the National Day celebrations on August 31, said state executive councillor of culture and heritage Borhan Aman Shah.

He said the flag distribution is part of the initiative to invigorate patriotism among society, as well as enliven the historic event.

“State assemblymen receive RM600,000 to RM800,000 in allocations yearly. We request they use some of the allocations to distribute flags, since doing so will not cost more than RM10,000 to do so.

“Similarly the chairmen of every Village Community Management Council (MPKK) in Selangor is also advised to follow suit. It should not cost much, perhaps RM500 or so, which is no reason not to celebrate Independence Day,” Borhan said.

He added as part of its effort to celebrate National Day, the state government has instructed government agencies including local authorities to fly the Jalur Gemilang.

“We have not been able to celebrate National Day for over two years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. So for this year, we are asking everybody to fly the Jalur Gemilang and celebrate our independence.

“This is a state government initiative, to serve as a reminder for the community to appreciate all that has been accomplished,” Borhan said.
