Alphabet Inc reports revenue growth, net income decline in first quarter

SAN FRANCISCO, April 26 — Alphabet Inc, Google’s parent company, on Tuesday (April 25), reported its first-quarter revenue at US$69.8 billion (RM311.3 billion ), up three per cent from the same period last year.

Announcing its financial results for the quarter ending March 31, the company said its net income was US$15.05 billion (RM67.14 billion), or US$1.17 of earnings per diluted share, compared with US$16.44 billion (RM73.34 billion), or US$1.23 of earnings per diluted share in the same period of 2022, reported Xinhua.

Among the entire quarterly revenue of US$69.8 billion (RM311.3 billion), US$61.96 billion (RM276.3 billion) came from Google Services and YouTube advertising, compared with US$61.47 billion (RM274.2 billion) in the first quarter of 2022.

The quarterly financial report also showed that Google Cloud sales grew to US$7.45 billion (RM33.23 billion) from US$5.82 billion (RM25.96 billion) in the same period of 2022.

“We are pleased with our business performance in the first quarter, with Search performing well and momentum in Cloud. We introduced important product updates anchored in deep computer science and AI,” said Sundar Pichai, chief executive officer of Alphabet and Google.

“We remain committed to delivering long-term growth and creating capacity to invest in our most compelling growth areas by re-engineering our cost base,” said Ruth Porat, chief financial officer of Alphabet and Google.
