SHAH ALAM, April 13 — The state government has identified two districts in Selangor where it will develop rural local activity centres, known as Smart Desa Bistari.

State executive councillor for rural development Borhan Aman Shah said the two districts are Sabak Bernam and Kuala Langat.

“In cooperation with PLANMalaysia, we are conducting a pilot project to develop Smart Desa Bistari in these two districts.

“We are redeveloping public hall areas or derelict buildings, which can be utilised as Bistari Centres for local (community) activities. Here, tuition classes and computer classes can be held, for example.

“This is one of the first projects to be held in Selangor, and will be inaugurated next month,” he said during a discussion on TV1’s Selamat Pagi Malaysia Nadi Seri Pagi programme, earlier today.

Borhan added that if Smart Desa Bistari is successful, PLANMalaysia intends to expand the project statewide, and possibly throughout the rest of the nation.
