Selangor confident of contributing 30 pct to national GDP — MB

SEPANG, April 7 — The state government is confident that Selangor will be able to increase its contribution to the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) to 30 per cent between 2025 and 2026.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this will be driven by projects like the Integrated Development Region in South Selangor (Idriss) as well as the NCT Smart Industrial Park (NSIP).

“With the injection of projects like NSIP and Idriss, we are confident that we can galvanise more economic activities,” he said to reporters after the NCT Group of Companies’ Smart Industrial Park’s groundbreaking ceremony, earlier today.

Amirudin added that such major initiatives would boost the state’s economic growth and subsequently increase its contribution to the national GDP, which stood at 24.8 per cent in 2021.

Despite the absence of major projects, he said Selangor’s contribution to Malaysia’s GDP had increased by between 0.2 per cent and 0.5 per cent per annum since 2018.

Meanwhile, the ceremony saw the Menteri Besar officiate over 296.4 hectares of development under the NCT Group of Companies (NCT Group), which will feature infrastructure progress, the use of artificial intelligence (AI), and modern technology.

The industrial park is part of ten projects in Sepang and Kuala Langat, as formulated under the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) announced in July last year.

Amirudin said the project is a starting point for both the NCT Group and the state government in the endeavour to highlight potential economic development.

“I am quite pleased as this is not only the beginning for NCT Group, but also for development in Southern Selangor via Idriss. The groundbreaking ceremony proves that it is no longer a dream but a reality that is starting to take shape,” he said.

On his part, NCT Group managing director Datuk Seri Yap Ngan Choy said the project is expected to cover three phases, which will be completed within a decade at an estimated gross development value (GDV) of RM10 billion.

“This is a project of the future, and we remain confident of working with potential investors abroad, including those from the United States, South Korea, China, Taiwan, and Australia,” he said.

NSIP, with a focus the semiconductor, electronics and electrical and pharmaceutical sectors, will feature 101 twin factory units and 27 industrial plots in its first phase.

It will serve as a one-stop centre that provides services to stakeholders like Invest Selangor and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida).

Idriss’ overall scope involves the development of over 16,000 hectares, which is aimed at ensuring the distribution of Selangor’s economic activities and generating more job opportunities.

The various development projects that have been proposed include those in the industrial sector, logistics and warehousing services, ports, businesses, housing, tourism, and education.
