LZS improves digital content to further disseminate info on tithe

SHAH ALAM, June 20 — The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) is improving its social media and website content to further disseminate information about zakat (tithe) and the obligation to perform it.

LZS Dakwah and Syariah Division head Salehuddin Abu Samah said that since the beginning of this year, the board had established a dakwah digital unit to ensure that every content shared on any platform to the public was appropriate and accurate in accordance with the requirements of Syariah.

“Social media apps like TikTok are now popular among young people, and we see this platform as suitable for sharing knowledge about zakat,” he told reporters after launching the Muzakarah Zakat Nusantara 2023 discourse here today.

The programme was launched by LZS Board of Trustees member Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Abdullah.

Meanwhile, Salehuddin said the three-day programme, organised by LZS in collaboration with Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), was participated by four Southeast Asian countries namely Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Brunei.

“The discourse is being held to explore various studies on fatwas on zakat and also the dakwah approach that can be applied in this modern age,” he said.

In a statement, LZS said the programme with the theme ‘Ke Arah Pemerkasaan Fatwa dan Dakwah Zakat Abad Ke-21’, brings together representatives from various sectors, especially zakat management, as well as Islamic scholars, academicians especially experts in the field of zakat, technocrats and corporates.

Various papers will be presented to cover topics related to zakat management, especially regarding the development of zakat fatwas and a more realistic approach to zakat preaching.
