KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 — Perbadanan Nasional Bhd (Pernas) should continue to be under the purview of the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (Kuskop) as was decided by the Cabinet early this year, according to its minister Datuk Ewon Benedick.
He said this was clearly conveyed during the discussion between Kuskop and the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) on December 22 last year, which was also attended by the Prime Minister.
“Therefore, the decision to have Pernas as an agency under Kuskop’s purview has been gazetted and decided during a Cabinet meeting early this year, and I believe that decision should remain.
“However, if KPDN wants to have further discussions, Kuskop is prepared to meet and give our point of view as we have said in the previous meeting,” he told reporters after the ground-breaking ceremony for The Jardin Sentul, earlier today.
On July 7, KPDN Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said his ministry is making efforts to put Pernas back under its purview in order to facilitate the coordination in the franchise industry.
He said, currently, acts related to the franchise industry are under KPDN’s jurisdiction but the implementing agency, Pernas, comes under Kuskop.
Elaborating further, Ewon said the two ministries should focus on their respective functions and services in developing the franchise industry.
“In my view, we should focus on our functions and services and do not need to discuss the same matter again, as it would be more time-consuming to continue discussing the matter,” he said.
Meanwhile, The Jardin Sentul development project is a joint venture between Koperasi Perumahan Sentul Pasar Kuala Lumpur Bhd (KPSPB) and Menarez Development Sdn Bhd.
The Jardin Sentul is a 29-storey Residensi Wilayah (Federal Territories’ affordable housing project) block with 322 residential units priced at RM300,000 each.
Construction for the project, which has a gross development value of RM120 million, will start in October this year and be completed by October 2025.
