GOMBAK, July 24 — Selangor’s economic robustness has benefited Malaysians from across the country, with scores migrating to the west coast state in search of jobs, according to Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the state’s sustained economic growth has opened up over 89,000 job opportunities in just the past five years alone.

“Selangor is a place where people of various races from all over the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak come to find work, thanks to our economic strength.

“That is what attracts many people to come and live here,” he said when officiating the closing ceremony of the Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari Cup Amateur Futsal Championship at KSL Sport Futsal, Batu Caves, here, last night.

Previously, Amirudin had said Selangor is a proven state that is able to overcome various challenges and contribute to the national economy.

This is in relation to the Statistics Department’s recent announcement that Selangor has recorded a gross domestic product contribution of 25.5 per cent last year, the highest on record of any state.

Amirudin said this achievement proves Selangor’s ability to continue developing, despite previous hurdles like the Covid-19 pandemic and recent flooding.

Meanwhile the menteri besar urged youths to be more involved in sporting activities to avoid the negative influences of social media.

He added that sports can also foster unity among the Malaysian community that comprises various races and religions.

“Through peers in social and sporting activities, it can shape the future of our country by encouraging unity.

“Here, we can support anyone from any team, religion or party. We can sit together,” he said.
