Harapan’s Sungai Kandis machinery lodges police report over polls result

SHAH ALAM, Aug 14 — Pakatan Harapan’s (Harapan) election machinery in Sungai Kandis yesterday lodged a police report over the allegedly dubious vote count there in the state polls Saturday.

Machinery representative Shaari Abdul Malik said he lodged the report on behalf of Harapan candidate Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni at the Shah Alam police headquarters at 3.56pm.

Zawawi said there are doubts about the tallying process at polling centres in the constituency, including a discrepancy over the number of unreturned ballot papers.

Shah Alam police chief Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim when contacted confirmed the report was made and would be referred to the Election Commission.

Previously, the Harapan-Barisan Nasional (BN) alliance said it would file annulment petitions for several seats won by Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the August 12 state polls.

Selangor Harapan chairman Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said these were the Sungai Kandis, Taman Medan, Gombak Setia and Dengkil seats, which were all narrow misses for the Harapan-BN pact.

The three-cornered clash in Sungai Kandis was won by PN candidate Wan Dzahanurin Ahmad with 28,926 votes, defeating Harapan’s Zawawi (28,759 votes) and Muda’s Afriena Shaqira Sariff (1,341 votes).
