Malaysia Madani under PM Anwar best defence for Islam — MB

SHAH ALAM, Dec 30 — The Malaysia Madani concept upheld by the Unity Government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is the best defence for Islam above all others, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Referring to Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham’s controversial proposal for the government to include non-Muslim experts in formulating Islamic laws, he said such a proposal would be troublesome to Ngeh’s party, DAP.

“Views and comments like these are unnecessary, nor is it necessary to contemplate them. Moreover, there is no importance in raising them for discussion at the outset.

“In fact, this burdens his party, which is currently at its best to collectively pursue the agenda of Malaysia Madani through a clear and comprehensive Unity Government that places Islam at the highest level.

“This is proof of Pakatan Harapan’s commitment via a strategic combination with Barisan Nasional, to be a better defence shield for Islam compared to any previous entity,” Amirudin said in a statement today.

He chided Ngeh, adding that as an experienced politician and a former speaker of the Perak State Legislative Assembly, he ought to reexamine his role, especially concerning issues involving Islamic affairs.

“The management of Islamic affairs is the special prerogative of each state under the aegis of Their Royal Highnesses, the Malay Rulers, and should be clearly understood sans any baseless allegations which may lead to misinterpretations and unnecessary unrest,” Amirudin said.

The Menteri Besar also thanked the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj for the decree yesterday, reminding non-Muslims against interfering in Islamic affairs.

“On behalf of all Selangor residents and members of society, I express gratitude for His Royal Highness’ wisdom in response to the Beruas MP’s proposal.

“Sultan Sharafuddin’s timely decree should serve as a crucial point and a focal point for any politician who fails to comprehensively understand the political realism of Malaysia.

“Similarly, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s consistent and firm efforts in addressing matters related to Islam and Malay affairs should be welcomed with respect, wisdom, and discernment by every politician, especially MPs,” he said.

Yesterday, His Royal Highness reminded politicians, particularly non-Muslims, from interfering in matters related to Islam in the country.

Sultan Sharafuddin, in his capacity as the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) chairman, said the council is entrusted with the responsibility to oversee all matters related to the Muslim community, and the council consists of experts knowledgeable in various fields, particularly those involving Islamic law and religion.

The Ruler’s remarks were supported by Anwar earlier today, who suggested that non-Muslims with any concerns may write to the MKI for clarification.

Similarly, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke also said yesterday that the party does not intend to interfere with the nation’s Islamic affairs.

Adding that Ngeh’s comments were mistaken, he said it is unnecessary for non-Muslims to worry about the matter, as any legal amendments pertaining their rights must first be decided Cabinet of Ministers before it is tabled and implemented in Parliament.
