SHAH ALAM, Dec 31 — Selangor’s royal couple has called on all quarters to put aside their political affiliations and focus on ensuring a better life for Malaysians as the country ushers in the new year at midnight.
Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin also expressed hope that more excellence and success will be achieved next year for the sake of the rakyat, particularly in the aspect of economy.
“Their Royal Highnesses want all parties, regardless of their political understanding, to come together and concentrate their focus and energy on efforts that ensure the well-being and sustainability of the people.”
They said this in their New Year’s message today to residents of Selangor, and Malaysians at large, which was uploaded on the Selangor Royal Office’s Facebook page.
The post said the royal couple also hopes that the people would usher in the new year with goals and resolutions that are beneficial not only to themselves, but also the nation.
“This is key to ensuring peace and prosperity can be strengthened,” it said.
“May 2024 be a better year for all Malaysians of various races and religions.”
Sultan Sharafuddin is known to be a strong proponent of harmony and unity, often urging all quarters to put aside any differences to ensure the prosperity of the people, with his various statements in the past a testament to this.
Most recently, His Royal Highness had said that he hopes the celebration of festivals like Christmas will foster a sense of mutual respect among the different races in the country, a key ingredient to maintaining peace and prosperity.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah as extending their 2024 New Year’s Day greetings and prayers for the well-being of the people and the country.
In a post on the Istana Negara’s official Facebook page today, Their Majesties also prayed for the continued unity and harmony of the nation.
“May the entire nation be blessed with prosperity, well-being, and abundance and be protected from any disasters and calamities.
“May we also be granted health, unity, and lasting harmony,” said Their Majesties.
