MB: Education, students’ welfare remain Selangor’s primary focus

SHAH ALAM, Jan 24 — The education sector and students’ welfare remain the state government’s top priority, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he said the administration remains steadfast in consistently prioritising education in its bid to produce outstanding future generations.

“As the Menteri Besar overseeing the education portfolio, certainly the welfare of Selangor’s students will always be a top priority for both this administration and myself,” Amirudin said today.

The post comes after his visit to and engagement with nearly 200 Selangor students pursuing their higher education at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in Kota Kinabalu, during the Jerayawara Kita Selangor programme yesterday evening.

“I attentively listened to their suggestions and grouses, and engaged in discussions on various topics,” he said.

Amirudin also announced the state government’s RM100,000 contribution to the UMS’ Selangor Students Association to assist the students and ensure their welfare.

The Menteri Besar’s visit to UMS is part of the state government’s four-day retreat in Sabah which began on Sunday (January 21), involving state executive councillors, senior officials, and representatives of state agencies.

The retreat aims to assess the First Selangor Plan’s (RS-1) progress and enhance the state executive councillors’ respective portfolios, among several key discussions.

Amirudin had previously said the gathering is crucial to gather insights from experts in the relevant fields to ensure policies that cater to citizens’ well-being can be implemented.

This is the first retreat since the formation of the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional state government following the conclusion of the Selangor State Election in August last year.
