Aidilfitri trip ends in tragedy as mum dies in crash

KUANTAN, April 15 — An elderly woman died on the trip back from celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri in Kelantan when the car she was travelling in collided with a lorry at KM 37 Lingkaran Tengah Utama heading towards Lipis this morning.

Lipis police chief Supt Ismail Man said in the 6.45am accident, Sharifah Abu Bakar, 69, the front passenger of a Proton Wira, died at the scene of the accident.

The car, driven by her son and with her daughter-in-law and three grandchildren in the back seat, was on its way back from Kampung Labok, Machang, in Kelantan, to Puncak Alam in Selangor.

He said the vehicle had lost control and crashed into the back of a lorry loaded with rubber wood that was on its way to a wood factory at Padang Tengku in Lipis.

“As a result of the collision, Sharifah died of injuries at the scene while the car driver, his wife and three children were taken to Merapoh Clinic for further treatment,” Ismail said today.

He appealed to witnesses to the incident to come forward to assist in investigations of the case under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
