SHAH ALAM, April 22 — Selangor was Malaysia’s only representative at the opening ceremony of Hannover Messe 2024, one of the world’s largest trade fairs for industrial technology.

The state government delegation was led by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

In a Facebook post, he said he would also participate in a forum later today with representatives from three other Southeast Asian countries, focusing on government and industry collaboration to advance sustainability goals in the region.

“The event (Hannover Messe) focuses on artificial intelligence, climate-friendly production and green energy solutions, with participation from major companies,” Amirudin said.

The fair’s participating firms include Microsoft, Google, Amazon Web Services, Dell, SAP, Siemens, and Bosch. Numerous startups from around the world also took part.

“Our (state government) aim is to bring back expertise and technologies to meet the needs of Selangor and Malaysia,” he added.

The opening ceremony was attended by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, European Commission president Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen, and Norway Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, among others.

Amirudin’s attendance at the Hannover Messe 2024 is part of his ongoing working visit to Germany.

He began his trip on Friday (April 19) by meeting the Malaysian diaspora in Munich, where he discussed and exchanged ideas with the business community and students pursuing higher education.

In a previous social media post, the Menteri Besar said that during the meeting, he also discussed the efforts taken by the state government via the First Selangor Plan to continue driving economic growth and ensuring the well-being of the people and Selangor.
