10 including three children hurt in Songkhla bombing

SONGKHLA, Feb 25 — Ten people, including three children, were injured in a bomb explosion yesterday in Saba Yoi here in Thailand.

Saba Yoi police chief Colonel Kongtup Sanatip said a homemade bomb weighing 10 kilogrammes attached to a motorcycle parked by a roadside, had detonated while a bulletproof pick-up truck was passing by at about 3.20 pm (local time), with a chief assistant district officer and three volunteers on board.

The impact of the blast launched the truck into a ravine, with all four hurt.

Also injured were six civilians, including three children aged between three and five years, who were at the scene located near a temple and a school.

All 10 victims are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

Kongtup said police were not ruling out the death of five militants in a clash with security forces in Cho-Airong, Narathiwat yesterday, as a possible motive for the bomb blast.
