SHAH ALAM, May 10 — Team Selangor is set to begin its tree-planting programme this June in several districts to preserve the environment’s ecosystem.
The local volunteer body’s chief secretariat Syahaizel Keman said that Team Selangor is cooperating with several quarters, including the Forestry Department and local authorities.
“We have already identified several districts. For the forest trees, we will plant them in Hulu Selangor and Gombak, while mangrove trees will be around Kuala Selangor and Sepang.
“This initiative is a sign of support for the state government’s move to aim for the planting of a million trees within five years starting in 2021,” he told SelangorKini.
Syahaizel added the planting activity would see the participation of students from several tertiary education institutions.
“Team Selangor has a working relationship with universities, but we had to limit their participation due to the movement control order,” he said.
Last year the body organised a gotong-royong programme to collect garbage in several popular hotspots to raise societal awareness of maintaining environmental sustainability.
