Strong earthquake hits Tonga — Metmalaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 — A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 on the Richter scale struck the Tonga Islands at 9.07pm tonight.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the quake was detected 690 kilometres (km) east of Laucala, Fiji at a depth of 238 km.

However, it posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia, the department said in a statement.
