Mohaiyani’s appointment an effort to dignify the role of women

SHAH ALAM, MAR 15: Pakatan Harapan congratulates Maybank for being the first Malaysian bank to appoint a woman as its chairman, heading a board of directors of the biggest public listed company in the country.
Pakatan Harapan believes that this will not only add to the list of women icons in critical and important fields like Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz, who was the Bank Negara Governor, but it will also motivate women.
Early in March, Maybank had announced a special one-year leave for women who just delivered and several other incentives for women which are timely on conjunction with the International Women’s Day.
Hopefully this approach brings Maybank forward in strengthening the role of women by giving the opportunity to Datuk Mohaiyani Shamsudin to lead the banking institution.
Chairmanship is a challenging role for anyone, what more to manage a company with assets worth billions.
Financial institutions are facing many risks and operational activities. The Chairman determines Maybank’s development and dividend distribution to shareholders such as Permodalan Nasional Berhad.
With that, our congratulations and best wishes to Datuk Mohaiyani and the Maybank team.
We believe she can carry-out this great responsibility. Women’s involvement in corporate administration is something that should be emulated by other business entities.
